PLAN FOR TRAIL RIDING AT HORSE COUNTRY! WE ADVISE ALL OF OUR GUESTS TO PREPARE FOR SOME FANTASTIC TRAIL RIDING AND THE DIVERSE TERRAIN YOU WILL FACE WHICH INCLUDES ROCKY AND HILLY TRAILS, WATER CROSSINGS, BRIDGE CROSSINGS AND CLAY SOIL BASE WHICH CAN GET SLICK WHEN WET.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND SHOES ON THE FRONTS, OR TO BRING A SPARE SET OF BOOTS FOR YOUR HORSES. BAREFOOT HORSES THAT ARE WELL CONDITIONED TO HARD GROUND AND ROCKY CONDITIONS SHOULD BE FINE, HOWEVER, BRINGING ALONG A SPARE SET OF BOOTS IS SOMETHING WE DO ADVISE TO ENSURE YOUR VISIT AND TRAIL RIDING IS A PLEASURABLE AND POSITIVE ONE.
THANK YOU! MANAGEMENT
Horse Country Campground has over 50+ kilometers of trails for you to enjoy with your horse.
Hitting the trails in the Ottawa Valley is awesome! You will experience over 6,000+ acres of pristine forests, bush, open fields and Ottawa River waterfronts including; multiple water crossings and our Voyageur Bay horse swimming rest area. The footing is a mixture of clay, soil, gravel, and sand. (If your horse has sensitive feet, we highly recommend shoes or boots) Terrain features, water crossings, bridge crossings, gentle hills, open meadows, fields and direct access to the Ottawa River.
Our trails go from beginner, intermediate to very experienced. If you are new to trail riding with your horse, please talk to us before heading out on the trails, as some of our trails are not for beginners and we can guide you on our trail map. Many people come out to our trails because of the challenge you will get from some of our trail systems. There are also several trails that are perfect for beginner and intermediate riders.
You will encounter places to cool off in the water with your horse, views of the white water rafters coming down the Ottawa River, streams and brooks to cross (and in some cases wooden bridges), scenic vistas of the Ottawa River, commanding views of the Gatineau hills and Ottawa Valley landscapes. Don’t forget your camera or you can rent one at The Resort.
Some fun destination to travel too on our trail system are:
The White Water Brewing Pub (There are places to tie your horses and buckets for water etc.) Leave in the morning and go in for lunch.
Voyageur bay and picnic area – Bring a lunch or snack and relax with a great view of the Ottawa River at one of our picnic tables and cool off in the river with your horse.
River Run – Enjoy the amazing scenery on the trails while horseback riding to River Run and possibly catch some views of the rafts and kayaks coming down the Ottawa River.
